Sometimes it hits me. Monday was one of those times. I was walking out to the apron where all the C-130s sit. There they were... cargo planes for the United States Air Force. And behind them a couple more taxied out to take off. And behind them were a couple more still, one that had just taken off half a mile away and another just behind it about to lift off the runway to meet up with it in formation. It was one of those surreal moments in life. Like you can almost watch yourself walking in slow motion with some sort of inspirational music playing in the background (whatever that sounds like to you).
It brought a smile to my face. Made me walk a little taller in my uniform. Made me think again about why I signed up to do this. I don't do it for me. Believe me, the cool moments are few and far between the nitty gritty details of my job (just ask Jade). I do it for you. Whoever you are out there. Whether you like the war, hate the politicians in power, picket for more money, slob who won't get a job, families who make a difference, journalists covering them all, and the average red-blooded American who loves their country; I do this for you.
And this is my aircraft HUAH!:
