Yesterday AMN Guilfoil was riding his motorcycle on the freeway. He hit the side of a bridge when he lost control of his bike and flew into a river. He didn't survive.
I lament for Airman Robert Guilfoil.
He was a crew chief, like me, here at Little Rock; although in a different section. I saw him only occasionally here. But I knew him from Tech School. He wasn't a friend, but I saw him... and his smile... every day for 4 months. He was so young. So still full of life. I think of his parents in Minnesota. What news had they expected from their son? When was their last phone call? And how proud of him they must have been! But now, the tears probably won't stop for months or years.
Which makes me think of my parents... who are coming to see us soon... and who I haven't called in so long to tell them I love them. Which makes me think of my own children and how full of life they are.
This, my first experience of a fellow soldier falling, a brother in arms not even so close, but known, is tough to swallow. This is my mourning, my lament, and my coping. I have no pictures of him to show you. The only pictures I have are the ones in my head, which makes me sad that I cannot pay that tribute to him. He deserves it.
Remember AMN Robert Guilfoil.

I am sorry for your loss, Mark. I will be praying for this young man's family.
One of the greatest ways to honor someone's memory is to honor those still living, and you share that sentiment. This life is all we've got.
Wish we could have been able to join Mom and Dad next week but I hear you'll be in town in May? We'll see ya then. :) Oh, and I'm sending Aurora's gift with Mom and Dad when they go (just giving ya a heads-up).
