What is the classroom of the future going to look like? Yes, here is another EdTech assignment, but it has made me really think about it. I am responding to these three videos made in 1987 about what they thought the future classroom might be like. If you don't want to watch them that's fine, but they are short and arguably entertaining.

It is interesting how much of this they got right. In 1987 the internet was something used by the military and a very select few others. Interestingly enough, in my EdTech class on Wednesday my professor did a lesson for a group of us in the classroom and there was a student who was sick following along on his or her computer in real time. The student at home was able to hear what the professor was telling us as well as see what he was doing on his computer. Pretty slick technology!
So watching these videos makes me think about what classrooms are going to be like when my kids have kids. I have to think that the human spirit will live on. So many of the movies set in the future have a gloom and doom approach. The thing is though that no matter what has happen throughout human history, there is this thread of balance that refuses to ignore the reality of humanity in this world. My hope is that we won't lose track of our perspective. I don't think we will, but then again on the global scale I see myself as a glass half full kinda guy. Because see technology will change and affect how we interact. But the fact remains the boy in the video still thought it sucked that he had to do school work even with a broken bone. THAT is something that hasn't changed, nor will it ever. The stuff that makes us people will always make us people. The stuff that teenagers deal with on a daily basis has never and will never change. Boys still chase girls, girls still whisper about boys, and they all are looking for their place in this world.
