Aurora's Beginnings - chapter 2

This is the continuation of a journal that Jade kept while she was staying in Sacramento alone immediately following Aurora's 3 and a half month premature birth.

1 March 2000
No big changes. She's only under the blue light. The spotlight is off. Her respirator is turned down. Gained 2 oz. Last Endocine dose - can't detect murmur anymore. White blood count is up, so antibiotics for a few more days.

2 March 2000
Blood pressure went down last night -> taking dopamine to fix. Blood gases are a little unstable and something else is down, so she's getting blood. Endocine didn't close her murmur. Will give another dose, but if it doesn't work will be surgery.

4 March 2000
Can still detect a heart murmur, but aren't going to do anything drastic until Monday. Started feeding her today 2cc's per 3 hours. Her blood-glucose was up, if it keeps going up she will have insulin. She's off antibiotics.

5 March 2000
She has an infection today. It's in her lungs, so she's back on antibiotics. Her respirator is turned up and she's on 100% oxygen. The respirator is pushing her lungs open, so hopefully it will help get rid of the infection. No milk today because she's not feeling well enough. They're talking about giving her steroids to help her immune system, and the organs - give them a boost. She's off the lights and no plastic wrap! Can't hear a murmur today.

6 March 2000
Have switched antibiotics. Took her off blood pressure medicine last night, back on it today. Started steroids, still on insulin. Has a new respirator that seems to be working better at keeping her blood-oxygen level up. Brain scan today, heart echo tomorrow.
-Blood pressure went down. Off insulin. Started giving her small doses of pain medicine to relax her and just in case.
